Departmental Profile<\/h2>\n

The Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics was established in 1982 (then Department of Land Surveying) with the first intake in 1983 and Mr. WUNDU<\/strong> Timothy as the first Head of Department. It was one of the earlier course established under the College of Environmental Studies. There were three (3) Lecturers including a Corper and Fifteen (15) students admitted for National Diploma. The basic Surveying equipment were brought and students carried out camping exercises at Tsamiyi Village where the then Sokoto State survey division established a Surveying Training School.<\/p>\n

From March 1985, Surv. DANIELS<\/strong> M.Y took over the Headship of the Department and was granted accreditation by the N.B.T.E and the first set of students graduated the same year. The bulk of the analogue surveying equipment were obtained during this period.<\/p>\n

In 1986, the venue of Survey Camping was changed to Babban Dutse near Makera where the Department established series of controls for the purpose of student practical.<\/p>\n

In 1991, Surv. IBIAM<\/strong> O.C. (late) assumed the Headship of the Department until his sudden death in January, 1994. Mr. Smart Ikhue-Omeregbe then became the acting Head of the Department. Due to the relocation of the Surveying Training School to Kaoje by the Survey Division of the Ministry of Lands and Survey, Sokoto State in 1990, the Survey camping site was also relocated to Kaoje.<\/p>\n

Since inception, the Department (also the College of Environmental Studies) was housed in the former School of Cooperative Studies premises along Jega road until the creation of Kebbi State in August 1991 which resulted in the movement of the College to Polytechnic Temporary Campus, popularly known has City Campus.<\/p>\n

From 1995- 1997, Mr. ABUBAKAR<\/strong> A. Umar took over the affair of the Department. From 1997 – 2007, Surv. Arigbede Idowu Isaac and Surv. Ibrahim Musa Illo were the heads of department respectively.<\/p>\n

In 2007, Mr. AMUSUK<\/strong> Danboyi Joseph took over the headship, which witnessed the commencement of the Higher National Diploma (with 16 students) in 2009 resulting in the\u00a0 employment of more academic staff, the purchase of additional automated Surveying instruments and establishment of both the GIS and Computer laboratories. The Department was visited by both NBTE and SURCON\/NIS and was granted Interim Accreditation from 1st<\/sup> October 2009 to 30th<\/sup> September 2011 for HND in Surveying and Geoinformatics.<\/p>\n

In 2012, Mr. ABUBAKAR<\/strong> A. Umar took over again and the Department was re-accredited by NBTE and SURCON\/NIS for another five years i.e. from 2012 to 2016. The Survey camping was moved to Gayi farm (landed property belonging to the Polytechnic).<\/p>\n

In November 2018, Surv. ADEWALE<\/strong> Adebayo took over the Headship to date. In January 2019 more automated instruments were bought for the Department and also the Department relocated to the permanent site (Gesse Campus) of the Polytechnic.<\/p>\n

The Department also houses the African Reference Framework (AFREF) Station sited by the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) and weather station for research purposes, it also service all the departments in the College of Environmental studies, Civil Engineering and Agric Engineering.<\/p>\n
