With the creation of new states by the Babangida Administration in 1991, there arose the need for various banks in the country to open new branches in the state capitals to cater for increasing business activities. Kebbi state as one of the newly created states, benefited from the establishment of new Bank branches; six new Banks branches were opened in the state capital (i.e. Birnin kebbi)immediately after the creation of state. Today all banks in Nigeria are reppresented in the States Capital.<\/p>

The establishment of more Bank branches meant that more staff had to be recruited and trained. The Polytechnic, in the process of discharging one of its social responsibilities, decided to look into the viability of mounting programmes in Banking and Finance, to facilitate the training of manpower required by the Banks.<\/p>

Thus, in 1992, after a series of consultations with NBTE, the Polytechnic was given the approval to commence such Programmes. The Programmes were however, run under the Department of Accountancy and Finance, until 1994 when the Department of Banking and Finance was curved out.<\/p>

The Department currently runs two Programmes leading to the award of<\/p>

  1. National Diploma (ND) in Banking and Finance<\/li>
  2. Higher National Diploma (HND) in Banking and Finance<\/li><\/ol>

    The Department enjoys envied reputations, and highly resourceful staff. Including three (3) PhD holders among others. The National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Programmes are now linked with Chartered instituted of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).This facilitates acquisition of Professional CIBN Certificate for both staff and students.<\/p>

    To accelerate the frontiers of knowledge and research in Banking and Finance by developing middle and higher level manpower that could fill the gaps in the relevant sectors of the Nigerian economy and beyond.<\/p>

    1. To equip Students with knowledge in the core areas of Banking and Finance as well as developed their capacities in problem solving that will offer solution to problems in a dynamic financial environment.<\/li>
    2. To equip Students with skills and technical knowledge, with a view to providing middle and higher level manpower.<\/li>
    3. To provide world class facilities and opportunities for education training and employment to all Nigerians.<\/li><\/ol>
