The Department of Accountancy was established in the year 1980. The Department is among the oldest Departments in the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi. Before the year 1980, only ABU, Zaria and Kaduna Polytechnic offer and train accountants in the whole the nearest academic institutionsin the whole of North-Westgeo-political region that was. As a result of limited number of trained accountants in the field of Accountancy was limited. Even in the A.B .U the Department of Accountancy was not independent but rather they were trained in the Department of Business Administration.<\/p>

To ease and provide more trained accountants needed for both public and private sectors in Sokoto State. The Department of Accountancy was created from the College of Administration in Sokoto State in 1980. Since then the Department has continued to offer both ND and HND Programmes in Accountancy. The Department Accreditation with the NBTE is up to date. Currently, several students of the Department are holders of professional licenses in various fields of Accountancy.<\/p>

The Department has fourteen and lecturers. Currently, the Department has approval of the Academic Board of the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic to amount National Diploma programme in Taxation.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Muhammad Yusuf Alkali (HOD), PhD, MSc Acct & Fin., MBA, PGD and HND Accountancy (CNA, FCITN, AMNIM)<\/h3>

Dr Alkali is a Principal lecturer and current Head of Department Accountancy. He holds PhD in Accountancy from the Univeristi Utara Malaysia in the year 2018. He also has MSc Accounting and Finance, MBA (UDUS), PGD in Accountancy and HND from Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi. He is a member of professional bodies like Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Fellow Chartered Institute of Taxation (FCITN), Associate Member Institute of Management (AMNIM). \nHe has been working and Teaching in the Department of Accountancy for more than 25 Years. He has more than thirty publications in international and National Journals. He is a member of the Editorial board of several International and National Accountancy Journals. Alim Muhammadu Dattijo, Bsc, MSc, (CNA,MICMA) <\/h3>

Malam Dattijo is from Bauchi State and former HOD from 2014 to 2016. He is a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Accountancy. He holds Bsc Accountancy, Msc Accountancy and Finance from A.B U Zaria. He is also a member of the Associations of National Accountants (ANAN) and Member Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (MICMA) \nHe has over 23 years of teaching and research experience. He worked in both public and private sectors in Nigeria for several years. Mr Samson Olarinre (Principal Lecturer), ACA, Msc Acct & Fin., PGD Acct., HND Acct. <\/h3>

Mr Samson was Head of Department and Dean of the school of accountancy and Finance from 2006-2009. He is the longest serving lecturer in the Department. He holds MSc Acct and Finance, PGD Accountancy, HND Accountancy. He is a Member of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) He has been teaching in the polytechnic sector for more than 32 years. He has several publications to his credit at both international and national journals. Anthony Ukong (Principal Lecturer) FCA, FCIT and HND Acct.<\/h3>

Mr Ukong was Head of Department for the year 2009 to 2012, and 2017 to 2018. He is the oldest HOD in the Department of Accountancy. He holds HND in accountancy, Membership of the Institute of Chartered of Nigeria (ICAN) and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Taxation of Nigeria.
